Yazaemon Flower and Bird Kobachi Small Bowl Set
This set of five elegant kobachi small bowls are ideal for daily use and go well with any dishes such as boiled vegetables and simmered dishes.
The rim of the bowls reminds us of flower petals. The shape of the bowl has been handed down from generation to generation in the Yazaemon Kiln. Items with distinctive curves such as this bowl are made by first making a base by pressure casting and then carved by skilled craftsman to give the final refined touch.
The design depicted inside of the bowl is a traditional pattern of bamboo, Japanese pampas grass, and peonies. The bamboo is a symbol of flexibility and unbreakable strength, the pampas grass is a symbol of the vitality of plants, and the peony is a symbol of good fortune that is meant to ward off evil spirits. The auspicious motifs have been widely used in Arita ware porcelain by the potters of the past, who wished to enrich the lives of those who use it, both materially and spiritually.
