Pink Shell Inlay Sakura Chasaji Teaspoon
This chasaji “teaspoon” by Yatsuyanagi is made of kabazaiku cherry bark work from Akita Prefecture. The detailed pink cherry blossom embellishment is delicately rendered using the technique of shell inlay called raden.
The cherry trees used for Akita cherry bark work are mainly wild cherry trees from the Tohoku region, which grow in a harsh climate and are prized for their beauty and durability. The bark is carefully peeled from the trunk and left to dry in the shade for a year or two to remove the moisture.
Distinguished by its natural patterns, the cherry bark of this teaspoon offers a moist texture and beautiful shine. Each teaspoon is handmade by skilled craftsmen, reflecting the warmth of traditional cherry bark craft. Its appearance will also evolve beautifully over time with use.
